Dr. Yao-Yuan Yeh (葉耀元)

Featured Speaker

This months speaker, Dr. Yao-Yuan Yeh will be focusing on: Why should the United States of America support Taiwan? We are extremely excited to have our speaker educate us on this effort.

As some of us may be aware, Governor Greg Abbott announced this past week that he was taking an economic development trip to Taiwan and will open a state office in Taiwan to enhance trade and cultural relations. Timing for our speaker will give us more insight on how we can support this effort as Texans.

“Texas and Taiwan are critical economic partners that seek to drive the future of innovation,” Abbott said in a news release from Taipei, the capital of the self-governing island off the coast of China. "Both initiatives — an economic agreement and a new State of Texas Taiwan Office — will strengthen the economic and cultural relationship between Texas and Taiwan."

Dr. Yao-Yuan Yeh (葉耀元) is a professor and is the Endowed Chair in International Studies at the University of St. Thomas, Houston, Texas. Dr. Yeh is President of the North America Taiwanese Professors' Association, Board Member of the American Association for Chinese Studies, Treasurer of Conference Group on Taiwan Studies (CGOTS) at the American Political Science Association, Book Review Editor of American Journal of Chinese Studies, and Editorial Board Member for East Asia Quarterly. He is also the co-founder of the Taiwan Policy Initiative (TPI) which examines the complexity of Taiwan's domestic politics and foreign relations and his research focuses on public opinion, foreign policy, international security, US-China-Taiwan relations and East Asian politics.

Dr. Yeh holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Texas A&M University and a B.A. in Political Science from National Taiwan University.

We want you to RSVP for the August luncheon as we know this will be a very popular topic and speaker.
